I make a short break in the series of posts on the “Ultimate Conscious Inspiration Architect

There are clear signs that we are in the progress
of a new architectural trend.
I invite you to review two excellent posts (Urbain-trop-urbain) that describe the inspiration sources of the new  “Bubble / Pebbles Architecture trend

I invite you all to contribute in developing the attitude and tools towards the viability of the “Conscious Inspiration” Method.

The abundance of information in the Web affects us all, as I illustrate in my posts.

I Believe that designing is a process formed from three main phases:  knowledge, tools and invention.

Knowledge”:  as many said, and wrote before – Knowledge is the foundation for all designing processWe architects and designers are obliged to be informed about everything that was designed in the past and on a daily basis….

“Tools” develop tools to analyze buildings and “Understand” them,  tools that will cope with the abundance of architectural information…

(I intend to demonstrate some of my ideas in future posts)

“Invention”:  with the methodology of “conscious Inspiration” we don’t need to be intimidated to get inspired from relevant buildings.  Once we develop our tools, it will lead us to high quality and creative architecture.

The “Conscious Inspiration” signs:

1. All buildings, in this post, deal with The Notion of theVisual House”

2. The buildings are designed in a unique simplicity of Prism-shaped elements.

3. The buildings design deal with “Weightlessness,
“Levitation” and “Balancing”.

4. Significant source of inspiration is Kormelings’ Starting Tower in Slochteren,Netherland

 REX Architects

And Power Media Center

 Formal Inspiration

….

..

Two quotations from the REXs’ site, describing the firm’s Approach :

1.
Architects have retreated from the accountability (and productivity) of Master Builders to the safety (and impotence) of stylists.
2.The media sells simple, catchy ideas; it reduces teams to individuals and their collaborative work to genius sketches. The proliferation of this false notion of "starchitecture" diminishes the real teamwork that drives celebrated architecture.

Very exciting …. REX Describe two of the reasons why I suggest to implement “Conscious Inspiration”….

Availability of the “ architecture  information” probably affects the planning processes and thinking of the modern architecture  Office. I hope the planning process that I like to call “Conscious Inspiration” Will give architects the tools to cope with the abundance of information, and  Create quality and creative architecture….

Zaha Hadid & MVRDV – “Conscious Inspiration”

Posted in buildings, public buildings with tags , , , , , on October 14, 2010 by eliinbar

At the year 2002MVRDV architects office designed a group of towers for the Donau city  in Vienna. The project was inspired by critical thinking about skyscrapers.

The result was a three dimensional City.

MVRDV’s towers were called the “Kissing Towers”.

At the same year Zaha Hadid designed two ”Kissing Towers” for Ground -zero in New- York City.

Four years later Zaha Hadid designed three towers for Dubai, they were called the “Dancing Towers”.

Green Skyscrapers – “Conscious Inspiration”

Le Corbusier Architect _ ATAMA Building _ Ahmedabad _1951

Here are sketches drawn by Corbusier describing the grid leading climate analysis, he calls it the ” grille climatique

Sketches were made from 1950 to 1965 for Chandigarh, India .

Original sketches from the FONDATION LE CORBUSIER

The Grid is a graphical means of presentation which permits the enumeration, coordination and analysis of the climatic conditions of a place (defined by its latitude) in order to direct architectural research towards solutions in accord with the human biological makeup. It deals with the rectification and setting in order of the excesses of extreme climates in order to achieve, by means of architectural dispositions, conditions capable of assuring comfort and well-being.

The ATAMA building  was not the first green building , nor it is a skyscraper , but maybe  it is the source of inspiration for generations of architects….

Birth and development of the  modern green skyscraper:

1.

Yeang Architect _Mesiniaga Menara ( IBM ) Tower _ Kuala Lumpur _ 1992

Original sketches that describe the design principles of Mesiniaga  Menara ( IBM ) green tower:

Text  quoted  from  Buisiness Week:
The IBM Tower in Kuala Lumpur was the first modern green skyscraper—although its architect, Ken Yeang, prefers to call it a “bioclimactic” building, because of the way its natural ventilation strategies make the building feel as if it were breathing. The design was the first to bring low-energy use to a high-density urban environment, reflecting Yeang’s idea that only the sustainable development of cities can accommodate the world’s population growth. But unlike the sophisticated technical engineering of later green skyscrapers, most of its strategies are passive—such as a spiraling atrium that accommodates “vertical landscaping,” improving indoor air quality and aiding natural ventilation, and external louvers that reduce solar heat gain

 2.

3.

Public relations representative of one of the most influential architectural firms in the world ,

Architecture firm MVRDV

Gave a Comment  to two of my recent blog posts,

Here are the comments of Mr Jan Knikker:

1/ …as much as this might flatter MVRDV, I am quite sure that Joshua Ramus did not use this as an inpiration for the Museum Plaza. The thing with your comparisons is that they lack intelligence and insight into the program. It is purely esthetical. I would like to receive an answer from you.
2/ What you describe are esthetical resemblances between random buildings that have been designed by the two offices totally independently and without the “inspiration” you discovered here. The dates you mention are dates of publication and not of the design. Both the OMA and the MVRDV building have been designed well before the date you mention. This series of yours is insinuating relationships which do not exist and is therefore a pure esthetical comparison lacking intellect, besides, it represents almost an insult to whichever office is supposed to be “inspired” by the other.
Regards,
Jan Knikker
MVRDV

I want to thank Mr.  Jan Knikker for the opportunity to share with you my urge to write this blog ….

In my blog, I juxtapose examples of projects without the intention to insinuate that one architect copied from another, but rather to spur a dialog among architects.

The goal is to encourage an architectural planning process that I like to call Conscious Inspiration.

I am obviously not the first to consider this approach:

Le Corbusier mentions in one of his books that his sources of inspiration for the Cathedral of Ron Champ was Villa Adriana at Tivoli. The French architect  Emile Aillaud describes in his writings that his source of inspiration for 3 office buildings in LA Defense (near Paris) was the Piazza Dei Miracoli  with the Tower of Pisa. Louis Kahan eventually got his inspiration  to design the  Hurva Synagogue from the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, and Tadao Ando traveled all over Europe to get inspired by existing buildings as a way to train  him self to become an architect..

So far, I have only scratched the surface of this concept, and I am in the beginning of this journey. I believe the journey itself may lead us architects to a more rigorous architectural planning.
