Bjarke Ingels Group – BIG…. “Pragmatic utopian architecture or “Conscious Inspiration” Architecture

Bjarke Ingels is a another successful graduate from Rem Koolhaas’s school ,the Office of Metropolitan Architecture ,OMA.

BIG ( Bjarke Ingels Groop) is a appreciated  firm that wins architecture competitions, on a regular base, all over the world.

Bjarke Ingels Design philosophy is very pragmatic:

Architecture has been dominated by two opposing extremes “Eccentric curiosities” and “boring boxes”

Bjarke Ingels believes that there is a “third way” a “pragmatic utopian architecture”or as I understand it “Conscious Inspiration Architecture”

In This post I will try to demonstrate why I think  BIG’s architecture is based on the principles of “conscious inspiration”

What did I learned from this post?

1.“conscious inspiration” is a pragmatic method that can lead us architects to be a successful firm.

2. “Eccentric curiosities” and “boring boxes” is out “pragmatic utopian architecture” is In.

3. “pragmatic utopian architecture” is designing according to the principles of The “conscious Inspiration Method”….“with the  methodology of “conscious Inspiration” , we don’t need to be intimidated to get inspired from relevant buildings.  Once we develop our tools, it will lead us to high quality and creative architecture”.

Here’s some information from Zaha Hadid Architects:

The new centre would house four music and dance institutions in one building clad with horizontal louvres.

In sharp contrast with the centre’s basic rectangular geometry, a fluid force field of horizontal louvers – that seemingly moves when graced by light and shadow – creates a playful language on the facade that articulates public circulation, foyers and the sculpted inner atrium, whilst at the same time allows visual connections out to the square as well as internal links between the various spaces of the project.

The access through the building allows for ventilation, shade, and increased fenestration for the occupants.TED is a public building in Taiwan that uses a form and highly mixed program to encourage a large cross section of users., the 57 meter cubed building has an open section, or ‘street’ to allow full public access through the building. The access rises and dilates near the top of the building and opens onto a rooftop garden. The roof is to be a public park and informal performance area.
